Fresh mace is bright red with a fragrant aroma but not as sharp as nutmeg. Nutmeg is used in soups, cream sauces, lamb, chicken, meat, cheese, stuffing, sausages, pudding, tomato sauce, baked goods, and donuts. Mace is very aromatic, spicy and warm, just like nutmeg. Mace is a stimulant, tonic, carminative and spice. This herb is used to help the digestive tract and stomach weakness. Mace is useful for improving blood circulation and regulating body temperature. Mace is used in the manufacture of pharmaceutical drugs for nausea, vomiting, dysentery, flatulence, malaria, rheumatism, sciatica and leprosy. Nutmeg essential oil is used as a flavor enhancer in liquor, tobacco and tooth cream.
